On Star and Lojack are the two most widely known systems on the market for automobiles and motor sports vehicles. They require annual service fees. Lojack requires 24-48 hours to activate and notify you and the authorities where the vehicle is located. Two key questions should be answered to allow you to judge the effectiveness of these systems:
- How far can the thief get in your vehicle before it activates? Out of the country or on a boat out of the country?
- How many parts can my vehicle be cut into in a chop shop in the time it takes the system to activate?
Immobilizing the vehicle in place is a better way to disrupt a thief’s plan to steal your vehicle. Insurance industry studies show that 50% of all motor sport vehicle thefts occur because the ignition is not locked and/or the vehicle can be started.
